LIMITED AVAILABILITY ON SELECTED PERFORMANCES

From 1927, the multi-award-winning company behind previous TOM hits The Animals and Children Took To The Streets, Golem and ROOTS, comes a brand-new show. Combining handcrafted animation and bold storytelling, join us and dive into a magical and mischievous world, inspired by a true story.

Kim and Davey’s dad, Mr E, has disappeared. When Mr E writes to his children to tell them what has happened, his imagination takes over. Reality collides with fantasy, as we travel on a fast-paced journey through his wild adventure stories. Mr E’s letters are staged using song, dance, and absurd, subversive animations, as his stories become a kind of game between him and his children - a cathartic release in the face of distress.

Please right back explores the difficulties children go through when a parent leaves the family while celebrating the power of the imagination to overcome hardship. Part social realism, part science fiction with a healthy dose of mischief and a dash of dystopia, Please right back is a eulogy to the power of the imagination, storytelling and make-believe.

★★★★★ "A genuinely masterful and unique theatrical experience for the whole family" - British Theatre Guide

WHO ARE 1927?

Whether you’ve experienced 1927 before or not, you’re in for a treat!

Founded in 2005, their unique blend of theatre and animation has seen them garner critical acclaim worldwide, having performed for over 1.5 million people across six continents. And in 2020, they expanded their repertoire further with a TV screening of the critically-acclaimed Golem, and then with 1927’s Decameron Nights, a special radio series that’s available to listen to on BBC Sounds right now.

First performing here at TOM in 2013 with the OFFIE award-winning show The Animals and Children Took To The Streets, Team TOM are proud to have worked alongside 1927 ever since - they are boundary-pushing, risk-taking, cross-disciplinary artists of the highest order. We couldn’t be happier to welcome them to our venue and city once again, and hope you’ll join us for what is sure to be an amazing new show!

"Anyone interested in the theatre should see this company now" - The Observer

"1927 conjure a world so complete it feels as if you’ve fallen down a rabbit hole" - Guardian

THE CONNECTION BY LETTER WRITING PROJECT
A special partnership with…

We're thrilled to announce that we are teaming up with our friends 1927 Theatre and Brighton-based charity Together Co as part of our upcoming run of Please right back this December at TOM!

In this collaboration, we'll be turning a part of our Bar into 'The Connection by Letter Writing Project' room, and asking audiences to connect with lonely or isolated people by writing letters, fostering a sense of togetherness and support. The project is made possible by the collaboration between Together Co and Best of British Events (who supported the charity by raising more than £2,000 at various events earlier this year).

This is such a meaningful initiative and provides a wonderful opportunity for our audiences to engage with the local community and make a real difference in people's lives. Theatre has always been about connection, and this partnership beautifully extends that ethos beyond the stage via the power of the pen.
