Renowned for an endless string of soulful yet socially aware hits ... Forgotten Town, Ideal World, Born Again, Harvest for the World, What’s in a Word, Hooverville, Words, Father, The Bottle and many more, The Christians enjoyed huge acclaim in the late 80s and early 90s both in the UK and Europe and often confused people with their band name (in fact, it was just the brothers’ surname with absolutely no religious connotation!) ... over 30 years on and they're still going strong.
Another Liverpool success story emerging in the late 80s, they are often described as a later-day ‘Temptations in Ripped Jeans’. Their first album, ‘The Christians’, exploded onto the scene spawning the aforementioned hit singles.
Their 2nd album, ‘Colour’, knocked Phil Collins off the number one spot! ...often forgotten until you hear the songs and remember how much you loved them!
Still headed by enigmatic lead singer Garry Christian (very deserving of the Daily Mirror’s description of him as having ‘one of the finest voices in pop’) who has only gained in vocal stature (and wit) over the years! The band are enjoying a revival currently touring successfully in the UK and Europe with 2017 being their busiest yet with over 80 tour dates.
2018 sees the band touring the UK, France, Spain and Switzerland and enjoying playing their back catalogue and songs selected from the new album.
Catch them on tour, including this show at The Old Market, and find out why Chris Evans said 'it was the best gig I've ever been to'.
