Autumn 2014 here at The Old Market is undoubtedly our strongest season yet. Within our core ‘TOM’s’ programme, we’re delighted to present a mixture of favourite companies returning with new work, as well as work from new artists who we think you’ll enjoy. This September, Brighton Digital Festival returns for its second year, while Brighton Comedy Festival presents a packed line-up in October.
Returning to The Old Market…
Of all our returning companies and performers this Autumn, audiences who saw The Animals and Children Took To The Streets in 2013 will likely be most excited about 1927’s new production, GOLEM. Previewing at The Old Market ahead of a high profile December premiere in London, tickets are likely to be snapped up quickly. We’re also thrilled to welcome back, now with an extra night, COPPERDOLLAR: BACK OF BEYOND for Halloween – following last year’s sell-out, and 5 nights at Glastonbury.
Other returning companies include: Show And Tell (Beats, John Peel’s Shed) this season bringing us the multi-award-winning FERAL; new dates, acts and innovations from WHITE MINK: ELECTRO SWING SPEAKEASY; and brand new album launches from both KATE DAISY GRANT & NICK PYNN.
Brand New Companies & Performers:
We’re also excited to announce productions from companies and performers who are new to The Old Market. Acclaimed theatrical innovators Imitating The Dog will fuse video projection, stage design and original music to create an extraordinary version of Hemingway’s A FAREWELL TO ARMS, marking the 100-year anniversary of World War One. Also using projection, in a brilliantly tactile way, Kill The Beast’s THE BOY WHO KICKED PIGS was a favourite of ours from Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Anarchic dancer Liz Aggiss presents her first (live) performance here, THE ENGLISH CHANNEL. And numerous other acts perform here the first time: comedy from TIM KEY, DANNY BHOY and MARK WATSON; music from THE JIM JONES REVUE, THE ANTLERS and NINE BELOW ZERO among others.
Brighton Digital Festival:
Brighton Digital Festival returns for its second year this September, with an extended programme here at The Old Market. A stunning visual highlight will be provided by Alexander Whitley Dance Company who, with pioneering lighting designers Marshmallow Laser Feast, present THE MEASURES TAKEN – a guaranteed stunner, not to be missed.
Also within Brighton Digital Festival, with undeniably increasing popularity for ‘nerdy’ comedy, we’re presenting SQUARE UP: TOM’S GEEKY COMEDY, a double-bill featuring MATT PARKER: NOW IN 4D and compendium show WARNING! CONTAINS NERDITY. And Circa69 (with Simon Wilkinson) will use video collage and live electronic score to portray a bizarre story of mass disappearance in the USA, in BEYOND THE BRIGHT BLACK EDGE OF NOWHERE. Brighton Comedy Festival:
Brighton Comedy Festival looks as strong and as funny as its ever been, returning this October. New acts are still coming in, but already confirmed to appear at The Old Market are: TONY LAW; KNIGHTMARE LIVE: Level 2; BRIEFS; ROBIN INCE; and ROBERT NEWMAN. View all Brighton Comedy Festival listings.
