Immerse yourself in a virtual reality world; Circa69’s THE CUBE [12-13, 19-20 & 26-27 Sep] is a short one-on-one performance that’s sure to blow your mind. Creator of The Cube Simon Wilkinson also leads a fascinating free talk on the psychology of attention and the creation of immersive performance [07 Sep].

Out of doors – and also free – is an event by ‘projection-mapping superheros’ Shared Space & Light, whose TALKING POSTS [17-22 Sep] will be positioned out on the streets near The Old Market. These lampposts are not what they seem…!

Other highlights of the programme include: Adam Buxton’s inimitable BUG [02 Sep], in which he selects an array of tasty musical video treats to titillate and delight; Ready Salted Code’s digitally-driven dance show [data]storm [13 Sep], which uses big data and wearable tech to unpick computer science through ballet; AddictiveTV’s ORCHESTRA OF SAMPLES [19 Sep], live mixing an international ‘supergroup’ of 200+ musicians who’ve never met; and, for toddlers, we’re bringing over Imaginart from Catalonia to present their outstanding immersive experience, SENSACIONAL [26-27 Sep] [well worth watching their brilliant video for a flavour of the fun!]

Love, Laughs, Power and Superheros frame our sparkling new theatre season…

Dark puppetry pioneers Green Ginger tackle the grotesque in OUTPOST [28-29 Sep], their brand new production about nationalism, leadership and the terrible consequences of using another man’s toilet. Acclaimed writer Gary McNair delivers a sucker punch blow with his deconstruction of the darker side of stand up comedy in his hit show DONALD ROBERTSON IS NOT A STAND UP COMEDIAN [05 OCT], brought to us by Show and Tell.

Comic book action comes fizzing to life with Panic Lab’s dynamic adventure show R.I.O.T. [13-14 OCT] – expect lots of Lycra and laughs! The laughs keep coming, with Paines Plough’s critically acclaimed, heart-wrenching and poignant EVERY BRILLIANT THING [19 & 20 OCT], a life affirming show about depression and the lengths we will go to for those we love.

Finally, macabre favourites Kill The Beast bring us another award winning tale promising hilarity, mayhem and mystery: HE HAD HAIRY HANDS [3 NOV].

Crossing musical boundaries: an eclectic programme of music and premium club nights…

Premium club nights are a speciality here at The Old Market; live music, performance and party blend into unforgettable experiences. Having stormed yet another Glastonbury Festival, and sold out 2013-14 here at TOM, COPPERDOLLAR: THE BACK OF BEYOND [29-31 OCT] returns this Halloween and Mexican Day of the Dead. We’ve also two dates of WHITE MINK: ELECTRO SWING SPEAKEASY [02 OCT, 04 DEC], named Mixmag’s #02 party in the UK.

Audio-visual samples of 200+ international artists come together in ORCHESTRA OF SAMPLES [19 SEP], forming a ‘digital supergroup’ who’ve never met but play together on screen. Also fusing formats, in his new show BEARDYMAN: ONE ALBUM PER HOUR [21-22 OCT], the legendary musician and comedian improvises a whole album live, based on your suggestions.

More gigs this season include: SHURA [30 SEP]; SWEET BABOO [01 OCT]; SLEAFORD MODS [06 OCT]; THE ENID [20 NOV]; NICK PYNN AND KATE DAISY GRANT [22 NOV]; ALBERT HAMMOND JR [26 NOV]; and many more.

Presenting the best live comedy of the year. This year’s programme at The Old Market includes  multi-award-winning musician and comedian BEARDYMAN [21-22 Oct], verbose, organised chaos from JASON BYRNE [16 OCT], plus RICHARD HERRING [23 Oct], QI’s JOHN LLOYD [17 OCT] and more.

Probably the largest celebration of historical female composers the country has ever seen, including a work from Francesca Caccini [05, 07 & 08 Nov].

Showcasing deep jazz from leading artists from the US, Europe and the UK.

October – November
2015 marks the 10th anniversary of City Reads and makes it the longest running ‘big read’ in the UK! This year’s book is Matt Haig’s The Humans. Wrapping up the festival [Sun 01 Nov], we’re hosting a day of events including HUMAN POETRY with Vanessa Kisuule, Dean Atta and Jackie Kay, and later, author MATT HAIG himself, in conversation with Alex Clark.

A colourful kaleidoscope of treats for all the family this Autumn…

Shakespeare for the OMG generation; New Mutiny’s explosive production of Romeo and Juliet [23-24 SEP] guarantees a truly magical introduction to Shakespeare for children, schools, and families. Featurning a beautiful original score composed by the cast and a unique framing to this classic tale.

International trailblazers Imaginart provide a sensory spectacular digital landscape for toddlers to explore, bursting with colour and joy, in their show SENSACIONAL [26-27 SEP]. The spectacle continues with Panic Lab’s colourful comic book adventure for all the family in R.I.O.T. [13 & 14 OCT]. Kid Carpet brings more quirky rock ‘n’ roll theatre to the half term break with his moving show about the horrors and excitement of the first day in a new house – KID CARPET AND THE NOISY NEIGHBOURS [26-27 OCT].
