Sea Power, based in Brighton with members hailing from Sussex, Kendal, and the Isle of Skye, have carved a unique niche in music.
Known for their atmospheric sound, they've won admirers like David Bowie, Lou Reed, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Their live performances are legendary, from playing atop the Great Wall of China to festivals in remote pubs and castles.
Their debut album The Decline of British Sea Power (2003) earned critical acclaim, with NME declaring it “dazzling.” Subsequent releases like Do You Like Rock Music? and Everything Was Forever saw chart success and a Mercury Prize nomination. The band’s ambitious projects include scoring soundtracks for films like Man of Aran and the BAFTA-winning game Disco Elysium.
Renowned for their eclectic Krankenhaus Festival, Sea Power’s events mix music, poetry, and natural beauty, earning accolades as one of the UK’s best festivals. In 2022, they dropped "British" from their name, distancing themselves from nationalist associations.
Despite challenges, including lineup changes, Sea Power continues to thrive, blending artistic innovation with heartfelt tributes to the landscapes and culture that inspire their work. Their music remains a testament to boldness and creativity. Guests TBC.
